Over Thanksgiving, my daughter asked, “How long does someone have to be dating a member of our family to receive a handmade quilt?” A not too subtle hint if you ask me. 😉 The answer for our family: two-ish years.
The quilt pattern is named Constellation, but I like to think he puts a little twinkle in my daughter’s eyes. She sure gets a glazed, starry-eyed look when she’s with him. Or talking about him. Or texting him. 🤩 I hope he enjoys the quilt and appreciates the bright star my daughter is.
I enjoyed picking out the fabrics (with my daughter’s approval via text of course) and thinking about Riley’s camping and scout experiences. Looking for fabrics that weren’t too kiddish but still had a young person’s vibe was fun because I got to go to the quilt store for new fabrics!
I used my cool new personalized labels Santa brought me for Christmas. The pattern went together very quickly which is essential for Christmas quilts requested in November. I even managed to get all the directional prints going in the same direction.
I imagine this quilt being used on a camping/road trip across the states to various National Parks.
I selected a Robert Kaufman Mammoth Flannel for the backing. It adds a bit of weight to the quilt and will make it soft and cozy when washed.
I hope the navy buffalo check flannel doesn’t look too grampa-ish. I used leftover HSTs to create enough backing without having to buy extra yardage.
